Each time a page on your site does not load, an error message will be shown to the site visitor. Because there are different errors, there are different pages which will show up, but what's common for all of them is that they are generic and most likely will have practically nothing that is similar to the design of your Internet site, which can be irritating for any website visitor. That is the reason why website hosting service providers have introduced a feature known as Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, site visitors will see your custom made content, which can be informative or amusing, depending on your taste, and that will match the style and design of your website, so the pages will not look like they aren't part of your site at all. You could use this option for many errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

You will be able to set up personalized error pages for any of your Internet sites effortlessly when you use any of our shared plans. This can be done using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts as soon as you go there, you can set your custom made pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You have to upload the files to your account before you start and enter the links to them through the process. This function can be de-activated anytime and the options you will be able to pick from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Custom made error pages may be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put into the domain or subdomain folder and it should contain some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you could copy the entire content you'll need for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of our semi-dedicated plans support tailor-made error pages, so you will be able to use this function for every single domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it will take to do this is to navigate to the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP, to click the Edit button related to the particular domain/subdomain and to type the link to the custom-made file. You could do this individually for each error type. You will be able to switch back to a standard error page at any time if necessary and the change will take effect straightaway. Another way to get the exact same result is to put an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder of the site which you would like to edit and to type in a couple of lines of program code inside it. If you want to try this method, you can copy and paste the necessary code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, which means that you'll not need any programming skills or previous experience.
