A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the right login credentials are offered. This could be a whole site or just a single page which is situated in a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you shall see an Internet browser pop-up in which you will have to input a username as well as a password. If you input the right ones, you will be able to continue surfing around the content without having to do anything else. When the login details aren't correct, however, you shall see a message that you are not permitted to see the content. If this option is enabled, you will not be able to open a file even if you have a direct link. The option is very practical if you'd like to restrict the access to some content or if you are developing a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it before it's ready.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Hosting

Setting up a password-protected area shall take no more than a few mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites inside a shared hosting account with us. You'll not have to do anything complex - you will need to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be protected, and then to type the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to set up numerous different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is active. If you want to disable the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to secure any content that you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's part of, so you'll not have to type in any code at any time. You'll simply have to choose one of the domains/subdomains that you have inside the web hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. Then you can input the username and the password, that will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be all set. The protection shall be switched on at once, so anybody who tries to access the freshly protected folder shall have to input the right login info. In case several individuals should be able to access precisely the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
