Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encode the data exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of using an SSL is to protect the info that visitors submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an online store, etc. Any information they type in in any box on the website shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment information shall be protected from being accessed by unauthorized people. Typically, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your presence online will be bigger. While this might not exactly be a problem for a larger enterprise, it might matter for a non-profit organization or a small online shop which does not generate big earnings if additional money should be spent. That's the main reason why we've taken advantage of an extension known as Server Name Indication (SNI) and we have made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

You could use a shared IP address for an SSL certificate with each shared hosting package which we offer and no matter if the SSL is purchased through us or through a third-party company. If the SSL is obtained on our end, not only will you be able to select the shared IP to be set during the order, but you can also select our auto-configuration option, so once you complete the purchase and approve the certificate, our system shall handle the installation for you within a couple of seconds and you will not have to do anything by hand. The only difference between using a shared IP and a dedicated one is that your Internet site won't appear if you try to open https://the-IP-address as opposed to https://your-domain-name, but besides that, everything shall be the same. With this function you'll be able to protect the information of your clients and have a secure Internet site without the extra expense for a dedicated IP.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Servers

You can use a shared IP for an SSL purchased through us or through any other vendor with any one of our semi-dedicated plans. The setup is extremely easy and if you obtain the certificate from our company, you could also take full advantage of our SSL wizard where with merely a couple of mouse clicks you could select the SSL to be installed automatically for the selected domain name or subdomain on the shared IP which is configured to be used for this specific purpose. This option will save you time and work as you will not need to do anything after you approve the SSL through e-mail, not mentioning the funds you'll save for the IP address on a monthly basis. Your site shall be protected and any customer will feel confident that their information shall be protected since using a shared IP address doesn't affect the adequate functioning of the certificate and the only real difference from using a dedicated one is that the IP address can't be used as a URL to access your Internet site.
